• Do you make anything in color or other media?

No. I currently accept commissions exclusively for charcoal landscapes and portraits. I’ve spent years working with charcoal, and I love exploring new ways to capture depth, texture, and atmosphere through greyscale.

  • What size paper do you offer?

I offer two standard paper sizes:

    • 18x24in

    • 9x12in

I can also cut custom sizes to your specifications.

  • What types of reference photos work best?

I primarily create landscape drawings, especially forests and ocean scenes, but I’m happy to discuss a variety of subjects! The best reference photos have strong contrast, a full range of values, and a clear composition.

Photos that are cluttered or have extremely harsh lighting often don’t translate well into charcoal, while images with very little visual interest can feel underwhelming. It’s all about finding a good balance.

  • Where can I find a reference photo?

You’re always welcome to send photos you’ve taken yourself or otherwise have permission to use.

I can’t create a commission from an image found online unless it is explicitly licensed for free use or you own the rights to it.

If you have a particular theme or idea but not a specific image, I can search my own photographs and copyright-free image libraries to find suitable references. We can also discuss combining elements from multiple reference photos into a single composition.

  • How long does a commission take?

Depending on the size and complexity of the piece, commissions typically take one week to one month to complete.

If you have a specific deadline, let me know before placing your order and I’ll do my best to accommodate it. Rush orders may incur an additional fee, particularly during busy periods or if the commission is needed in less than a week.

  • What are your rates for standard sizes?

    Starting rates:

    • 18x24in charcoal drawing: $300

    • 9x12in charcoal drawing: $150

Prices may increase depending on the complexity of the piece or if a rush turnaround is required. Shipping costs are not included.

  • How do I care for my charcoal piece?

All works are original drawings created on 100% cotton paper using vine and compressed charcoal, then sprayed with a fixative. While the fixative helps secure the charcoal, some loose charcoal dust may still transfer if the surface is rubbed.

To keep your artwork in its best condition, I recommend:

    • Handling the piece by the edges whenever possible.

    • Framing it behind glass or acrylic to protect the surface from dust, moisture, and accidental smudging.

    • Keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from areas with high humidity.
